Resilience Day

Resilience Day

As you should be aware our two focuses for this year are Independence and Resilience.

Miss Povey has today organised a Resilience Day for the whole school.

The children have learnt about Karl Hinett, a gentleman who was burned very badly but still continues to raise money by running marathons for the Burns Unit at Selly Oak Hospital. In fact, he would like to run 200 marathons before he is 30.  He has ran 126 already and still has a few years to go.  Karl has even managed to complete marathons under water and through ice and snow!

For the rest of the day the children have been participating in team activities and working with children from across the whole school.

Never give up-keep going!

School Senate

At the start of term David Winnick, a local MP, came to school to very kindly talk about his job.  The children played  a fantastic part by asking very well thought out questions.  Well done to the children for showing great manners, so much so, the school has  been invited to London for a tour of the Houses of Parliament…watch this space!

The children then went on to take part in their own elections to be on the School Senate.  I would like to thank all children for taking part and putting in so much effort.

The results for KS 2 are as follows;

Year 3

Year 4

Year 5

Year 6

Congratulations to the above children!  They will represent the school at the Windsor Academy Trust Senate Meeting, which will involve working with children from Windsor High School and Sixth Form, Rivers Academy and the newest school in Windsor Academy Trust – Manor Way.

As part of our focus on Resilience/Independence this year, KS2 had a special assembly from a gentleman called Errol Lawson.

Errol told some fantastic tales about growing up and overcoming many obstacles in his life.  He told the children “I know I can, Be who I wanna be, If I try hard enough, I can be who I wanna be!”.

Ask your child what they learnt!

Here is an extremely funny clip that helped show the children that when your life is on track and you’re feeling happy, there will be obstacles in the way- but you just need to get back up and keep going!

I Will Survive
